Chem Elut brings the simplicity of liquid/liquid extraction (LLE) to a disposable cartridge. Packed with a specially cleaned diatomaceous earth called Hydromatrix, Chem Elut lets you process samples by LLE without the problems of LLE:

• The cartridge format eliminates sample shaking and emulsion formation.
• Solvent flows by gravity only, improving extraction reproducibility.
• The organic extract is automatically separated during the process, allowing for easier automation.

For extraction of basic compounds, apply samples at a high pH (generally 2 units above the pK_a). For extraction of acidic compounds, apply samples at low pH (generally 2 units below the pK_a).

Hydromatrix Bulk Sorbent 硅藻土填料

Hydromatrix is a specially cleaned and sieved diatomaceous earth. Varian uses Hydromatrix in Chem Elut cartridges and Combilute well plates, and it is also available in bulk for specialty applications, such as a solid support for Supercritical Fluid Extraction, and extra-large scale extractions and purifications.

Hydromatrix precursors - diatoms

Hydromatrix comes from the fossilized skeletons of marine diatoms which lived millions of years ago in prehistoric sea beds. It is mined from the earth and purified in a flux calcining process which removes organic debris. It also undergoes a series of sizing processes to ensure an optimal particle size distribution for providing gravity flow of both aqueous and organic solutions.
